Bush Bathing Walks

There are opportunities to walk in the natural environment both within the Bell hill Retreat area and the surrounding district ( within 10kms drive) depending on guests’ fitness level.


A newly established wisdom tree sanctuary adjoining the retreat cottage gardens has been created specifically for a guests therapeutic ‘quiet space ” to meditate with the “flow form” water features, panoramic views, bird song and wild life interaction. Plantings include kauri, NZ ceders, red woods & the mighty rimu. 


Recommended: Sturdy foot wear & sandfly repellent recommended on any West Coast walks.

Bell HILL RETREAT

Haupiri Hot Pools 

A two hour walk from the end of the country road to a remote mineral pool at the head of the Haupiri Valley – med fitness level is advised as a swift creek crossing plus bush climbing will be encountered.

Nelson Creek Historical Walks

Enjoy the relaxing easy ½ hour plus recreational walks amongst the gold workings of the historical Nelson Creek township. The area is full of history of the early gold mining activity of the West Coast – follow up by a beer & meal at the local Nelson Creek Hotel..

Walk the easy / family orientated village walks ( Fairy Walk / Velenski walk) and Lake Brunner lakeside recreational walks enjoying the rainforest ambiance – followed by a meal and views of the Lake Brunner Hotel - magic.

Lake Brunner Scenic Trail

Walk & Cycle Trail – this almost completed 12-kilometre walk aimed at an “around the lake” experience to finish at the Lake Brunner Lodge – an option to lunch & boat back across the Lake is available (bookings essential).

Lake Brunner Lodge - Mitchells Walks

Follow the scenic road to the Lake Brunner lodge and enjoy the short or longer walks along this route. Highly recommended is the Water Fall walk before enjoying a leisurely lunch at the Lake Brunner Lodge ( booking essential) along with the lakeside Bain Bay walk enjoying the interaction with the native flora and the lake wildlife.
